Dr. Scott McCarty (2001) Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist

Fairmont Memories-As a kid, Scott played soccer, was a member of the National Honors Society and math club. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and tutored. Some of his favorite memories include playing FIFA in Eric Alban's basement and learning to "really embrace the inner nerd" from Mr. Ken Pifer.

McCarty's advice to the Class of 2023: Dive in to what you love after graduation. Take the risk that it may end up as a career.

Family & Hobbies-Scott lives in San Diego with his wife and their two year-old son (they're expecting a daughter in June). He still plays soccer twice a week and competes in Magic the Gathering local and national tournaments. He serves on the board of Agents vs. Cancer, a non-profit dedicated to delivering resources for families impacted by cancer. Look for their organization to be promoted when you're watching MLB this summer!Scott followed his heart on his career path which led him to his current position as a partner with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group as a pediatric hematologist/oncologist. He is passionate about his work and is inspired by the strength of his patients. The strong sense of community in Kettering and memories of the supportive teachers at Orchard Park, Van Buren, and Fairmont keep Scott invested in the continued success of the Kettering City Schools.
