Fond Memories-If you’re lucky enough to spot Marie around Kettering, have her share the names of each one of her Greenmont teachers! A true relationship builder, Marie drew inspiration from teachers including Maggie Martin, Nancy Vavul, Arlene Akerman and Dean Deerhake (to name a few!) in her own classroom during her 25 years of teaching. “I feel blessed to have had so many teachers that left positive memories and taught lessons I still pull from today,” said Marie.

“One of the best things that happened to me was my parents moving to Kettering the summer before I started kindergarten.”

Family Tradition-Marie and her husband, Kevin (1985), loved supporting their alma mater when their kids, Alie (2011) and John (2020), were at Fairmont. Marie loves that both of her kids were able to explore their interests and gain real-life skills that prepared them well for their careers.Marie’s Fairmont pride runs deep, and she continues to find ways to give back to the schools that shaped her life. Marie enjoys engaging with students at Supper Club (which she says, “all alumni should take part of!”) and serves on the Alumni Committee of the KCS Forward Foundation. “My hope is the alumni of Kettering City Schools will come together and continue to give back to the community in gifts of time, talent or treasure! What seems like ‘nothing’ may really be a LOT for students and staff in Kettering.”
