Bio

Michael Berning is a native of Sidney, Ohio. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Music from Miami University and a Master of Music degree from Wright State University. Mr. Berning serves as the Director of Bands and the Coordinator of Music for the Kettering City Schools, overseeing the district music program. Mr. Berning has directed concert bands, marching band, pep band, symphony orchestra, and the pit orchestra. The Fairmont Music Department includes more than 600 students. The Fairmont Music Department was named a National Grammy Signature school and district-wide the Kettering Music Program has been named a N.A.M.M. Best Community for Music Education for 10 consecutive years from 2013-2022. Mr. Berning is an active member of the Ohio Music Education Association, serving as a host for adjudicated events and a marching band adjudicator. He recently completed a term on the OMEA State Board as the District XII President. Mr. Berning began his tenure with the Sinclair Community bands in the fall of 2022. He currently conducts the Community Wind Symphony and Community Concert Band.
