Bio
Dr. Scott D. Edmondson is the Senior Vice President, Head of Chemistry at Nimbus Therapeutics. At Nimbus, Scott leads the chemistry, computational chemistry, biochemistry, structural biology, and protein science groups and works with the Executive Leadereship Team to manage a portfolio of Discovery projets. Nimbus combines cutting-edge structural biology with physics-based and ML/AI driven computational drug discovery capabilities to design highly selective breakthrough medicines in inflammation, immunology, metabolic diseases, and oncology. Before joining Nimbus, he served as the Director and Head of Boston Oncology Chemistry at AstraZeneca, where he led a team of 40-50 internal chemists and >50 CRO chemists that executed on drug discovery programs in oncology from target validation through candidate discovery. While at AstraZeneca, Scott also co-led the Global Oncology PROTACs effort to help establish and grow this promising new modality. Dr. Edmondson began his career at Merck Research Laboratories where he worked on projects in the early discovery space through the early clinical space in therapeutic areas such as metabolic, cardiovascular, antiviral, and urology. Over the course of his career, Scott has authored/co-authored over 65 publications/book chapters, over 60 patents/patent applications and has led/contributed to teams that have delivered over a dozen clinical candidates, seven drugs currently in human clinical trials, and two marketed drugs - JanuviaTM (sitagliptin) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and GemtesaTM (vibegron) for the treatment of overactive bladder. Outside work, Scott stays active in the scientific and chemistry communities in multiple capacities. He served as editor for the Cardiovascular, Endocrine, and Metabolic Disease volume in the 8th Edition of Burger’s Medicinal Chemisry and currently serves as the Oncology Section Co-Editor for ACS Medicinal Chemistry Reviews. Dr. Edmondson served on the Medicinal Chemistry Committee and as a Councilor for the Northeastern Section of the Americal Chemical Society (NESACS) from 2017-2024 and is the 2025 Chair Elect of NESACS with a subsequent role as Chair in 2026. Scott received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Cornell University followed by his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1996 with Prof. Leo Paquette. He completed an NIH postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Samuel Danishefsky at Columbia University prior to joining Merck.
